Model rocketry organizations (part I)

There are many organizations worldwide that sponsor and conduct model rocket competitions for kids as well as adults. Some of them will be seen in the upcoming blogs, including today’s which talks about NAR-

Nar: National Association of Rocketry

The NAR is America’s largest and oldest rocketry organization. It was established by Orville Carlisle and G. Harry Stine in 1967, the “pioneers of model rocketry”. It is a tax-exempt, non-profit scientific organization working for consumer safety, youth education and advancement of technology in hobby of space modelling.

With 5900 plus members, and 165 plus affiliated clubs, the organization is all about having fun and learning about model rockets! It covers models for kids to very large high-power rockets for adult hobbyists. It also has its own safety code for hobby rocketry, and it have been recognized and accepted worldwide.

A bimonthly magazine, “Sports Rocketry” is the largest magazine in circulation related to hobby rockets. It also publishes an electronic newsletter, containing information about model rockets, as well as publishing papers and experimental data procured by rocketeers. It also provides rocketry education through NARTREK i.e. “National Association of Rocketeers for Experience and Knowledge”.                                                         

NAR also conducts educational programmes and national and local competitions for young and adult rocketeers. It provides grants to teachers and scholarships to students. Also, provisions for publication of technical literature is given through the organization.
